The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Music Awards have been staged annually since 1987 to celebrate the achievements of the Australian music industry. John Farnham (1987-2003) and Silverchair (1995-2008) have both won 21 ARIA awards. Farnham took home six trophies at the 1st Annual ARIA Music Awards, including Best Male Artist, Single of the Year (“You’re the Voice”) and Album of the Year (Whispering Jack). He was the recipient of the first Outstanding Achievement award in 1988, and in 2003 he was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Silverchair opened their account with five trophies in 1995, including Single of the Year (“Tomorrow”) and Best New Talent in recognition of their debut album Frogstomp. The rock trio, fronted by Daniel Johns, received the Outstanding Achievement award in 1996 and went on to claim five awards in 2002 (all in relation to their fourth studio album Diorama) and six in 2007 (all awarded for their fifth and final studio set Young Modern or its lead single “Straight Lines”).

Farnham’s ARIA Hall of Fame induction in 2003, and both acts’ Outstanding Achievement accolades, are considered to be among their 21 awards.
