Anne Murray (Canada) won 25 JUNO awards between 1971 and 1993, including Top Female Vocalist/Female Vocalist of the Year eight times (1971-73, 1975 and 1979-82) and Country Female Vocalist of the Year 10 times (1974-76 and 1980-86). For two years in a row (1980-81), Murray also won Single of the Year (“I Just Fall in Love Again” and “Could I Have this Dance”) and Album of the Year (New Kind of Feeling and Greatest Hits).
Murray’s remaining three JUNOS were for Pop Music Album of the Year (Danny’s Song) in 1974, Best Children’s Album (There’s a Hippo in My Tub) in 1979, and in 1993 she was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Five further JUNOS were awarded to the producers of Murray’s music: Best Produced Single in 1971 (“Songbird”), Best Produced MOR Album in 1971-73 (Honey, Wheat & Laughter, Talk It over in the Morning and Annie) and Recording Engineer of the Year in 1979 (Let’s Keep It that Way).
Her 25 JUNO wins have come from 52 nominations. Only Céline Dion (72), Bryan Adams (63) and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (53) have received more nominations in the history of the JUNO Awards.
Anne Murray hosted the JUNO Awards in 1996, when they were staged at Copps Coliseum (now the FirstOntario Centre) in Hamilton, Ontario.
The vocalist was born Morna Anne Murray in Springhill, Nova Scotia, on 20 June 1945.
The annual “JUNOS” have been presented by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences since 1970 in recognition of the achievements of Canadian musicians.
