Map of the Soul: 7 by BTS (South Korea) had sold 4,440,818 copies in South Korea as of March 2021, according to chart compilers Gaon. The boy band’s seventh studio album, featuring the singles “Black Swan” and “ON”, was released worldwide by Big Hit Entertainment on 21 February 2020 and quickly became South Korea’s best-selling album of all time – ahead of previous record holder “Map of the Soul: Persona”, the group’s 2019 EP, which had sold 3,979,733 copies as of the same date.


7 topped charts around the world, including the US Billboard 200 (selling 422,000 album-equivalent units in the first week) and the UK’s Official Albums Chart. The set debuted at No.1 on the Gaon Album Chart dated 22 February 2020, and it remained at the top on 29 February. 7 reportedly sold 2.65 million copies in South Korea in the first six hours after its release, 3.37 million copies in the first week, and in just nine days it became the first album in history to surpass sales of 4 million copies in the boys’ homeland.

Map of the Soul: 7 pushed BTS’ album sales in South Korea to more than 20.3 million, making them the country’s best-selling act of all time.

As of March 2021, BTS owned the three best-selling albums of all time in South Korea, with 7 and Persona joined by their 2020 Map of the Soul: 7 follow-up Be (3,599,435 copies sold).
