Bing Crosby's (USA, 1903–77) festive classic "White Christmas" has sold an estimated 25 million copies in the USA, and at least 50 million copies worldwide. Written by Irving Berlin (USA, b. Russia, 1888–1989), Crosby released the Academy Award-winning "White Christmas" in 1942 – the same year it appeared in the musical film Holiday Inn. The song, credited to Crosby alongside the Ken Darby Singers and John Scott Trotter and his Orchestra, first topped the National Best Selling Retail Records chart (the forerunner of the Billboard Hot 100) on 31 October 1942, where it stayed for 11 consecutive weeks.
