Chart-topping South Korean boy band BTS (@BTS_twt) had registered 422,228 engagements on Twitter as of 29 April 2019. Three alternative Twitter accounts for the world-conquering septet – @bts_bighit, @bts_love_myself and @BTS_jp_official – had amassed 98,330, 66,753 and 34,785 engagements, respectively, as of the same date, and their management company Big Hit Entertainment (@BigHitEnt; 81,529 engagements) had also cashed in on their success. All five accounts are among Twitter's top 100 users for average retweets.


Bufferapp.com describes a Twitter engagement as the "total number of times a user interacts with a Tweet. Clicks anywhere on the Tweet, including Retweets, replies, follows, likes, links, cards, hashtags, embedded media, username, profile photo or Tweet expansion."

The previous record holder was One Direction's Harry Styles (UK; @Harry_Styles), who had registered 115,559 engagements as of 29 April 2019. Fellow boy band EXO (South Korea; @weareoneEXO) had 44,758 engagements as of 29 April 2019, with Justin Bieber (Canada, @justinbieber) on 69,619 engagements as of the same date.

BTS had 19.6 million followers on Twitter as of 29 April 2019.

Seoul's BTS are: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook. They formed in 2013 and have won top awards at major national (Mnet Asian Music Awards, Melon Music Awards, Korean Music Awards) and international (American Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards) ceremonies. In 2018, they achieved their international breakthrough with their sixth album, Love Yourself – Tear, which topped the US Billboard 200 – the first-ever album by a Korean act to do so. It was followed to No.1 by Love Yourself – Answer (2018), and in 2019 Map of the Soul – Persona went to No.1 in Australia, Canada and New Zealand as well as the USA and the UK. Persona was also their fifth consecutive chart-topping EP in their homeland.
