Devised to cash-in on the popularity of the arcade, Frogger became the first videogame to be turned into a boardgame when it was launched in 1981.

The game involved you getting three frogs from to the opposite side of the board using the numbers shown on the six-sided dice after it had been thrown. Created by MB Games, it was one of a number of videogame-inspired boardgames created by the company. Others included Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Defender, Berzerk, Zaxxon, The Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter II, Centipede and Super Mario Bros.

MB – or Milton Bradley – was also behind the first handheld cartridge-based console, the Microvision, which it released in November 1979. It lasted two years.

The PAC-Man boardgame was released in 1982.
