The oldest person to travel from Land's End to John-O'-Groats on foot (female) is 60 years 213 days and was achieved by Angela White (UK, b. 27 February 1959) in Land's End, UK, on 28 September 2019.

Angela, who manages a social enterprise called ‘The Running Granny’, only began running at the age of 53. She was inspired to attempt this record by her career in healthcare, in the hope she could encourage others to take steps to adopt healthy lifestyles that will improve their quality of life as they age.

She has never undertaken a challenge like this before and spent 18 months preparing for the record attempt. This included long distance training runs, food planning and working out the best ways to prevent blisters!

Angela was most overwhelmed by the large number of people who followed her run. She, however, did not expect the run to be quite as painful as it turned out - yet at no point did she consider giving up. She was supported by a team of 12 throughout the journey and credits much of her achievement to them. Most nights were spent in a motorhome hired for the attempt; while Angela’s diet consisted predominantly of porridge, bacon, egg, salmon, pasta, cheese, cakes and pastries.

The toughest conditions she faced were strong winds in Scotland. An unexpected hot spell in Cumbria also forced her to take an unplanned break; while the majority of the rain she endured came in the southwest of England.

She completed the journey in 19 days.
