The titular moggie – whose actual name is never revealed – made his first appearance in an online video entitled "Cat Man Do" – an animation created by the British artist Simon Tofield.
As of the same date, Simon's Cat was also the most subscribed animated animal channel on YouTube, and the second most subscribed animal channel overall, after Brave Wilderness.
