Made available as free downloadable content (DLC) in August 2014, the addition of the 2014 Spark-Renault SRT-01E Formula E racing car in Forza Motorsport 5 (2013) marked the first electric vehicle to be added to Microsoft's racing series. The car was also used in MAK-Corp's Hyperstimulator Simulator, which was paraded at promotional events. It was the first vehicle to be approved for Formula E racing by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body of motor sports.
The first fully electric vehicle in a racing videogame is the Tesla Roadster in 2007's Project Gotham Racing 4.
