The smallest chicken is the Serama, a bantam breed originating in Malaysia. Males typically weigh up to 500 g (17.6 oz), females up to 450 g (15.8 oz) – but some birds weigh as little as 350 g (12.3 oz), and measure 15–25 cm in height. As well as their diminutive size, they can be recognized by their strikingly upright posture, full breast and vertically positioned wings.
