Diligent Nintendo fan Dave Pickett (USA) spent hours recreating Super Mario 64 from its 3D origins of the Nintendo 64 to a 2D version in Super Mario Maker. The result, Super Mario 64 2D, was produced to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original game.

There is something of a trend for Mario recreations. YouTuber "KHAce" followed up with a reconstruction of the Game Boy classic Super Mario Land. Although it's not 100 per cent faithful, owing to the limitations put on him by the Wii U game, it allows you to play all the way up to "World 4" (that's all 12 levels), which should take around 30 minutes to complete. To get around the lack of monochrome Game Boy graphics on Super Mario Maker, it uses the colourful graphics of Super Mario Bros on the NES. The levels were released separately on to Super Mario Maker on 1 January 2017.
