The most prolific hack-and-slash videogame metaseries is Musou (Koei Tecmo, 1997), with 74 instalments including updates and expansions. Known as Warriors in the west, this metaseries is made up of the core Dynasty, Samurai and Orochi series, in addition to licenced series that include Gundam, Fist of the North Star, The Legend of Zelda and One Piece.
The first game isn't included because it's a one-on-one fighting game rather than a hack-and-slash game.
The series also features mahjong, pachinko and card-battling games, but they aren't included within the scope of this record.
