The taxonomic order of parrots, Psittaciformes, contains almost 400 modern-day species, and is divided into three superfamilies: Cacatuoidea, Strigopoidea and Psittacoidea. The largest of these by far is Psittacoidea, which contains approximately 350 species. They are found in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide and largely in the Southern Hemisphere.
