The world's oldest dog show is the Birmingham Dog Show Society Championship Show, which was established in 1859 in the UK, and is still running as of 2017. Among the largest of UK dog shows, it is one of 37 Group and General Championship Dog Shows licenced by the UK Kennel Club throughout the year that enable dogs to qualify for Crufts the following year.

In 2016, this show saw more than 10,000 dogs compete over four days, representing more than 200 different breeds, and was held at the Staffordshire County Showground, in Stafford, on 5–8 May. Among the rarer British breeds represented were the Lakeland Terrier, Cardigan Corgi, Glen of Imaal Terrier and Skye Terrier.
