The Tekken (Bandai Namco, 1994) series has created 23 playable female characters, ranging from Nina Williams in the original game right up to Katarina Alves in Tekken 7 (Bandai Namco, 2015). Rival series, Dead or Alive (Koei Tecmo, 1996) matches Tekken with 23 playable female characters across its fighting videogame history, seven of which are guest characters from other franchises.
