Although Spyro the Dragon first burst onto the gaming scene in a 1998 PlayStation title that shared his name from developer Insomniac, he is not the oldest videogame character to feature in the iconic toys-to-life series. That joint honour falls to Crash Bandicoot and his adversary Doctor Neo Cortex, who made their debut on 9 September 1996 in the earlier PlayStation title Crash Bandicoot (Naughty Dog). The pair subsequently appeared as playable guest characters in Skylanders: Imaginators (Toys for Bob, 2016).

Skylanders: Imaginators even features special Crash Bandicoot levels dubbed the Thumpin' Wumpa Islands. These levels recreate the gameplay of the character's earlier adventures.
