The youngest full-time head coach in the Bundesliga is Julian Nagelsmann (Germany, b. 23 July 1987), who was aged 28 years 203 days when he took over at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on 11 February 2016.
Julian Nagelsmann, nicknamed "Baby Mourinho", was fast-tracked into the top job at Hoffenheim when Huub Stevens stepped down for health reasons. He had already become the youngest assistant coach at the age of 25 when he joined Frank Kramer on the touchline in December 2012. He worked briefly as a scout for Thomas Tuchel at Augsburg before taking over the U19s of Hoffenheim and leading them to the national title in his first season. They finished runners-up the following year.
In his first few months as a Bundesliga head coach he saved Hoffenheim from relegation. During the 2016–17 season he remained unbeaten for the first 16 games, putting Hoffenheim in contention for European football.
Bernd Stöber was only 24 when he sat in the dugout as coach of 1. FC Saarbrücken on 23 October 1976. However, that was just on an interim basis. For the record, he lost that game 5–1.
