With 48 tracks in Mario Kart 8 (Nintendo, 2014) – including 32 originals and 16 added following its launch – players have been upping the competitive ante by trying to speed round them all in the shortest possible time. They are using the 200cc virtual engines introduced to Mario Kart games in April 2015. A player from the Catalonia region of Spain, "aje4naton", achieved a time of 1 hour 33 minutes 47 seconds on 8 November 2016.
