A "Major" in the Counter-Strike eSports calendar is used to denote a large tournament that is sponsored by the game's publisher Valve, and which have large, crowd-funded prize pools, usually set at a minimum of $250,000. Inevitably, these events are the most prestigious and eagerly watched/contested in the game's season. The first ever Counter-Strike Major was the 2013 DreamHack SteelSeries Counter Strike: Global Offensive Championship (aka DreamHack Winter 2013) held at the Elmia Exhibition and Convention Centre in Jönköping, Sweden, on 28–30 November 2013. The top prize of $100,000 was won by the Swedish team fnatic, who defeated fellow countrymen Ninjas in Pyjamas 2–1 in the final.
