The oldest known pair of trousers were discovered in an ancient graveyard in Western China's Tarim Basin in May 2014, and are thought to be at least 3,300 years old. The trousers are made of wool with a drawstring waist and woven decorations, and are believed to have been worn by a nomadic horseman. It has been speculated that the first trousers were invented to wear on horseback for protection and ease of movement.
