Released for the N64 in 1998, the action-adventure The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo) is the only videogame to achieve a Metascore of 99 as of 3 Mar 2020, as verified by Metacritic. The game sits ahead of three other titles on 98: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (Neversoft Entertainment, 2000), Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar, 2008) and SoulCalibur (Namco, 1999).

Including GameRankings scores, Ocarina of Time's Metacritic score makes it the most critically acclaimed videogame overall. However, it is only the second most critically acclaimed game on GameRankings, where it has a score of 97.54% compared to the 97.64% achieved by Super Mario Galaxy (2007).
