Released for the N64 in 1998, the action-adventure The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the only videogame to achieve a score of 99 on the reviews aggregator site Metacritic, as of 14 December 2016. The game sits ahead of three other titles on 98: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Grand Theft Auto IV and SoulCalibur.

Including GameRankings scores, Ocarina of Time's Metacritic score makes it the most critically acclaimed videogame overall. However, it is only the second most critically acclaimed game on GameRankings, where it has a score of 97.54% compared to the 97.64% achieved by Super Mario Galaxy (2007).
