First YouTuber to reach 50 million subscribers

On 8 December 2016, videogame YouTuber and Swedish entertainer Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg became the first broadcaster to hit the milestone of 50 million subscribers. Days prior, PewDiePie had shocked the world when he announced that he would delete his channel as soon as the figure had been breached, causing a number of live-streams set up to observe his subscriber count with trepidation. As of 12:50pm (GMT) 9 December 2016, his channel was still live with 50,081,668 subscribers. As of this date, his most watched video was the gaming highlights reel "Funny Montage" with 75,407,234 views. It featured such games as Surgeon Simulator 2013 and Wario Ware.
