The oldest model railway club in the world is The Model Railway Club originating with its inaugural meeting on 3 December 1910. It is based near King's Cross in London, UK, and continues to meet on a weekly basis to build and operate model railways, use the extensive library, hold lectures and take part in exhibitions.
Following an open letter published in the September 1910 edition of the Model Railways and Locomotives magazine suggesting the formation of a club, the first meeting was held in London, UK, on 3 December 1910, when Mr Henry Greenly was elected chairman.
The club continued to meet throughout World War I, although one meeting had to be curtailed due to a Zeppelin raid.
Meetings were suspended during World War II, but the club collected subscriptions and remained in business.
Today, The Model Railway Club continues to progress with a thriving membership covering a very wide range of interest and age groups, at its own well-equipped specially built club rooms.
