Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner (Austria, b. 13 December 1970) was the first woman to ascend the top three highest mountains without supplementary oxygen. She climbed Kangchenjunga (Nepal/India, 8,586 m; 28,169 ft) on 14 May 2006, Everest (Nepal/China, 8,848 m; 29,029 ft) on 24 May 2010 and K2 (China/Pakistan, 8,611 m; 28,251 ft) on 23 August 2011. She was the 22nd person to achieve the feat and, as of 2016, was only followed by one other female climber: Nives Meroi (Italy, b. 17 September 1961).
