Nintendo's iconic plumber Mario had starred in some 208 games (excluding remakes and re-releases) before making his very high-profile – and somewhat surprising – debut on mobile platforms with Super Mario Run for the iOS on 15 December 2016. The auto-run platformer follows Pokemon GO as the second major smartphone title produced by Nintendo since partnering with the Japanese company DeNA in 2015. The game was launched in 150 countries, in 10 different languages, and, unlike Pokemon GO, was developed fully in-house at Nintendo.
