- Pikachu Illustrator
- 195,000 US dollar(s)
- United States (New York)
The most expensive Pokémon card sold at auction was a "Pikachu Illustrator" Trainer Promo Hologram Trading Card, which sold for $195,000 (£150,704) at Weiss Auctions in New York, New York, USA, on 23 October 2019. The card was designed by the creator of Pikachu, Atsuko Nishida, and is one of only 39 copies released in 1998 as prizes for an illustration contest.
The card was graded PSA 9 mint meaning it is in "superb condition" with only one very minor flaw. Only 39 copies of the card were released in 1998 as prizes for an illustration contest in CoroCoro Comic and only 10 PSA certified copies are still known to exist. It is the only card in the card game series to say "Illustrator" at the top of a Trainer Card, and the only one to bear the pen symbol in the bottom right corner.
