According to a report by US scientists Stuart Hamilton and Daniel Casey, Indonesia has the largest area of any country containing mangroves. By analysing data from the Global Forest Change database, the Terrestrial Ecosystems of the World database and the Mangrove Forests of the World database, they calculated that, as of 2014, Indonesia has 42,278 square kilometres of mangrove biome, accounting for 25.79 percent of the global total. Brazil comes in second with 17,287 square kilometres.
