In 1981, Hideo Kodama (Japan) from the Nagoya Municipal Industrial Research Institute published a paper that illustrated a method that could be used to print objects in 3D. His idea used photopolymers to create a solid object built up in layers, with each layer corresponding to a cross-section slice through the object.
