Within days of its 21 October 2016 release, Sid Meier's Civilization VI proved one of the most popular games on Steam. That month, the number of gamers undertaking its historical warfare at the same time peaked at 162,314, topping genre heavyweights Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition (118,240), Total War: WARHAMMER (111,909) and Sid Meier's Civilization V (91,020). It also registered the fifth highest peak playing figures overall behind Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fallout 4 and GTA V.
