Between its inaugural tournament in 2011 and the culmination of its 2023 event on 19 November 2023, the League of Legends World Championship has been won by South Korea's T1 (formerly known as SK Telecom T1) on four occasions: in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2023.
Their star player "Faker", aka Lee Sang-hyeok (South Korea), was part of the team for all four triumphs, giving him the most wins at the tournament.
Many pundits regard the competition as the ultimate prize in the esports calendar, along with the Dota 2 tournament, The International.
