It took 64 matches for Cathryn Fitzpatrick (Australia) to claim her 100th One-Day International wicket. The landmark was achieved in a World Series of Women's Cricket match against India in Lincoln, New Zealand, on 1 February 2003. The unlucky batsman was Nooshin Al Khadeer, who would go on to become the seventh of 13 women to date (as of 25 October 2016) to reach 100 ODI wickets.
India's Neetu David took 69 matches (1995–2005) to claim 100 ODI wickets, while Australia's Ellyse Perry took 70 matches to achieve the feat, the last of which was a match against India in Hobart, Australia, on 7 February 2016.
The male record belongs to Mitchell Starc (Australia), who took 52 matches to record 100 ODI wickets. He claimed the record on 21 August 2016.
Fitzpatrick took a female record 180 ODI wickets in a career spanning almost 14 years (24 July 1993 to 5 March 2007).
She had an inauspicious start to her ODI career, taking no wickets for 60 runs in her first three ODIs, in July 1993. She had to wait until her fourth appearance, against New Zealand on 18 January 1994, for her first ODI wicket.
She claimed five wickets in an innings four times during her career, including twice after notching up 100 ODI wickets.
In her last 50 ODIs, from 2 March 2002 until her swansong on 5 March 2007, Fitzpatrick failed to take at least one wicket in only five matches.
