The White Ferns’ mammoth total, built around captain Suzie Bates’ 151, is 10 runs more than the men’s record of 481 for 6, set by England on 19 June 2018.
The White Ferns surpassed their own ODI record score of 455 for 5 – against Pakistan on 29 January 1997 - in the 48th over of their innings in Dublin.
Major contributions to New Zealand’s innings came from Bates (151 runs, 94 balls, 24 fours, two sixes), Maddy Green (121 runs, 77 balls, 15 fours, one six) and Amelia Kerr (81 not out, 45 balls, nine fours, three sixes), who, five days later, would set a new record for the most runs scored by a player in a One-Day International (female), against the same opposition and at the same venue, with 232 not out.
In the one-sided three-match series against Ireland in Dublin, New Zealand posted three of the four highest women’s ODI team scores in history: 491 for 4 (8 June 2018), 418 all out (10 June) and 440 for 3 (13 June). They now hold the top four team scores in women’s ODIs alongside their previous record score of 455 for 5 (29 January 1997).
