The most consecutive boxing world junior lightweight title defences is 12 by Brian Mitchell (South Africa), who successfully defended his WBA World super featherweight belt from 27 March 1987 to 15 March 1991.
Mitchell was known as The Road Warrior, with his defences all taking place outside of South Africa owing to a ban against the country by the major sanctioning bodies over its apartheid policies at the time.
Mitchell fought and won in Puerto Rico, Panama, France, Italy, Spain, Britain and the USA. He tried to unify the WBA and IBF titles against Tony López, but the fight ended in a draw and Mitchell had to sacrifice the WBA title for a rematch with López, which he won in September 1991.
