Brightest light imaged

- Who
- GRB 130472A
- What
- 94 billion electron volts volt(s)
- Where
- Not Applicable
- When
- 27 April 2013
On 27 April 2013, a star explosion was witnessed by NASA’s Fermi and Swift space telescopes. NASA noted one gamma ray with an energy of at least 94 billion electron volts – approximately 35 billion times the energy of visible light and several times brighter than the telescope’s previous record. Named GRB 130472A, the exploding star was spotted in optical, infrared and radio wavelengths by ground-based telescopes, with digital images captured of the explosion located approximately 3.6 billion light-years away from Earth. This makes GRB 130472A the brightest object ever captured in a digital photograph.
