The tallest observation deck on a cruise liner reaches a height of 88.6 m (290 ft 8 in), and was achieved by Royal Caribbean International (USA) as measured in Hong Kong, China, on 29 October 2016.

The observation deck, called the North Star, is a moving boom with an observation capsule at the end of it. At its highest point, the floor of the capsule reaches 88.6 m above the water line. The measurement was carried out on the Ovation of the Seas Quantum Class cruise liner, before it set off for a cruise to Japan. There are two other Quantum Class liners in the Royal Caribbean fleet which also have the North Star observation deck installed.
