Geological evidence suggests that there was a single continental landmass on Earth from around 3.6 to 2.8 billion years ago. Referred to as Vaalbara, this continent was smaller than any of today’s continents. The Kaapvaal and Pilbara cratons in Southern Africa and northwest Australia are the surviving remnants of Vaalbara.
