The largest flag unfurled underwater measures 2,400.764 square metres and was achieved by Andaman and Nicobar Administration (India) at Swarajdweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India on 2 May 2026.
The record was attempted by Andaman and Nicobar Administration in a bid to promote Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a premier global diving destination. The Tri-Colour national flag of India was selected for this purpose.
Admiral D.K. Joshi PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency not only graced the occasion but also actively participated in the record attempt. His involvement underscores the Administration’s commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and positioning the islands prominently on the global tourism map.
The event brought together trained divers, support teams and technical experts to ensure adherence to international safety standards and Guinness World Records guidelines. As it was the Indian national flag being unfurled, all provisions of the Flag Code of India were strictly adhered to.
