Debuting in August 2002, the Super Mario Kart World Championship has been staged annually for 14 years as of its 2016 event, held on 24–28 August 2016 in Strasbourg, France. The tournament takes place at a different location in France each year. Its inaugural event featured 16 competitors, while in 2016 some 56 racers representing nine nationalities jostled for top spot on the podium.
