Debuting with Mike Mayfield's text-only computer game Star Trek in 1971, the Star Trek franchise has been spawning videogames with considerable frequency for approximately 45 years – more than any other gaming franchise. Mayfield's early effort was written in BASIC and was released for early minicomputers such as the HP 2000 and Data General Nova. The most recent Star Trek game, as of July 2016, was Disruptor Beams' strategy title Star Trek Timelines, released for mobiles and the iPad in January 2016. A Star Trek VR title, published by Ubisoft and entitled Star Trek: Bridge Crew, was showcased at E3 2016 and was set for launch on multiple VR devices later in the year.
