Based on research conducted by enthusiast and former Microsoft man Ed Fries (USA) in 2016, the first colour arcade videogame is known to be Color Gotcha, released by Atari in October 1973. Fries purchased a printed circuit board for the purportedly "lost" game on eBay for $760 in March 2016. After overcoming several major hurdles, Fries was able to restore the game in colour using the CGA monitor from an old IBM computer. Further research revealed that Color Gotcha released very shortly before another arcade title, Wimbledon, which was also believed to have been in colour. Of the moment that Fries got his game working he wrote in his blog: "I can’t tell you how exciting this moment was. Could I be the first person to see the first colour arcade game in decades? Maybe so!"
Gotcha is a two-player maze game in which the object is to catch the other player.
