First person to beat the “impossible” Ultra Nightmare mode in DOOM

On 14 May 2016, just one day after the game's release, Norwegian YouTuber "Zero Master" successfully beat DOOM (Bethesda, 2016) in Ultra Nightmare, the incredibly tough mode that developers said would never be beaten. It combines the game's meanest difficulty setting with the added challenge of not dying once. "It is absolutely insane that people are pulling this off, even a day after the game was released," wrote one awe-struck follower to Zero Master's YouTube page. As of 28 June 2016, the video of his play-through had been watched 810,325 times. The run itself was completed in around 4 hours 40 minutes.

Zero Master also achieved the first Nightmare completion of the fan-made DOOM 2 levels The Plutonia Experiment. He managed this in June 2015 – some 19 years after they were released as part of Final Doom in 1996.
