From 25 November 2016 and 7 January 2017, the "co-operative nightmare horror game experience" Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 raised an astonishing $12,393,139 in pledges from 19,264 backers on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The game was an updated version of a cult table-top hit that had previously raised $2,049,721 on Kickstarter in 2012. During the update's record-breaking campaign, a record was also set for the fastest $1 million pledged for any crowdfunded project on Kickstarter, a time of just 19 minutes. Kotaku observed that the game had two key appeals: "a neat premise" and "a ton of very cool miniatures".
The game is designed by Adam Poots of New York, USA.
