The film – a remake of the 1981 classic of the same name – stars Sam Worthington as demi-god Perseus, son of Zeus, who must defeat the Kraken in order to rescue Princess Andromeda from Hades, god of the Underworld.
The sword-and-sandals genre typically focuses on classical mythology and Biblical tales, but also encompasses gladiators, Ancient Romans, barbarians, Vikings or fantasy figures. The term is also used specifically to describe the "Pepla" movies produced in Italy in the early 1960s.
