The largest gathering of people dressed as dinosaurs is 804 people, and was achieved by Vernal, Utah (USA) at the Dinah "Soar" Days Event, in Vernal, Utah, USA, on 28 August 2026.
The prehistoric party turned the streets of Vernal into a veritable sea of T rexes, Triceratops and other colourful creatures. For organizers, the victory was especially sweet. Vernal had attempted the same record in 2025 but fell short, so this year the team returned with improved plans – and their determination paid off.
The event was designed to bring the community together, with people of all ages and abilities invited to take part. Vernal is already famous for its dinosaur attractions, including nearby fossil quarries, while around 150 dinosaur statues – many decorated by local artists – can be found across the city.
GWR adjudicator Hannah Ortman, who had to deliver the bad news last year, returned to oversee this year's attempt. "I was impressed at the way the organizers learned from their previous experience," reported Hannah. "They made smart changes to this year’s plans to increase the chance of a successful result, and indeed it was a truly dino-mite community comeback!"
The record attempt ended on a moving note. Organizers asked all 804 dinosaurs to unleash one huge collective roar in tribute to people fighting cancer, including a young girl attending the event. In this part of the world, they say that a roar means “I love you” in dinosaur speak, and while the sound itself soon faded, the message behind it - community spirit, shared achievement and perseverance – will resonate long after the event.
