Most critically acclaimed action-RPG videogame

Elden Ring (FromSoftware, 2022) is a sprawling action RPG set in a bleak, fantastical world, and is known for being very challenging and full of unique boss fights (in the vein of FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series, leading to the subgenre of ‘soulslikes’). As of 21 May 2025, Elden Ring (PS5) had a Metascore of 96, based on 93 reviews, an incredible 45 of which were perfect scores.

This replaces the previous record holder, Mass Effect 2, which has the same score but based on fewer reviews and with fewer perfect scores overall.
