According to Nielsen BookScan's global data, he sold an estimated 5,365,458 books over the year, significantly bolstered by the release of Double Down in November, the 11th instalment in his phenomenally popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
Overall, Kinney was the second best-selling children's author of 2016, only beaten by Harry Potter writer J K Rowling (UK), who sold an estimated 12,736,955 books across the year.
