He started his challenge by attending a sixth-form production of Julius Caesar at Lewes Town Hall in Brighton, UK, on 27 November 2014, and completed the list with Pericles at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashton, Oregon, USA, on 21 October 2015 – his 38th birthday.

Dan wanted to do something challenging to celebrate his 37th birthday and settled upon seeing all of Shakespeare's 37 plays. Scholars disagree as to the exact number of plays the Bard produced – it may be as high as 42 – but the most widely accepted number is 37.
