As of 12 April 2016, there had been at least 17 live-action parodies of Mario Kart on YouTube, in which its star(s) cosplayed in full Mario regalia, driving through public settings that were not exclusively go-kart tracks. The most-viewed videos included "MARIO KART (REMI GAILLARD)" and "MARIO KART 2 (REMI GAILLARD)" by French prankster Remi Gaillard, "MARIO IN REAL LIFE LONGBOARDING, RUNNING FROM SECURITY PRANK (CHASED By Security)" by JOOGSQUAD PPJT, "Mario Kart in real Life" by RichKidsTV, and "Mario Kart FlashMob" by Base37. In the latter video, which was published in February 2016, actors dressed as Mario, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong et al hared around the floors of the Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, London, UK.

Some of the videos had been watched hundreds of thousands of times.

The two Remi Gaillard videos had been watched more than 67 million and 24 million times respectively.
