Major League Gaming’s 2016 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major Championship (CS:GO Major) peaked with 1.6 million concurrent viewers. The tournament was held on 30 March–3 April 2016 in Columbus, Ohio, USA, and was broadcast through MLG.tv, Twitch, Marstv (in China) and GOTV (broadcast directly inside the game). In addition, Activision Blizzard (the new owners of MLG) claimed that a total of 45 million hours of live broadcast was watched by fans during the tournament. The 2016 CS:GO Major was the first held in North America, with teams battling it out for their share of a $1 million prize pool. More than 10,000 fans turned up to watch the event live at Columbus' Nationwide Arena.
The record beats the 1.3 million concurrent viewers for the ESL One Cologne Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 2015. However, the ESL One tournament still holds the record for most viewed Counter-Strike tournament overall, with some 27 million viewers tuning in to watch the tournament through Twitch.
