The Dreamcast Fishing Controller, first released in Japan on 1 April 1999 alongside Get Bass (named SEGA Bass Fishing in North America and Europe) proved more than an authentic tool for keen anglers. Its motion sensors also allowed the peripheral to act as a tennis racket in Virtua Tennis (2000), predating the motion-sensing tennis in Wii Sports by six years. This, incredibly, makes it the first videogame tennis racket.

The most remarkable thing is that the programmers of this obscure game must have included code to make it possible.

Its motion sensors also allowed the peripheral to take control of a sword in Namco’s one-on-one combat game Soulcalibur (1999).
